As an Artist I am interested in shape and color, in particular how different forms in a piece interact with one another. I may find the form in nature, in my kitchen, or in a place I’ve visited. Recreating a subject in a painting whether it is here in Maine, Mexico, or Italy allows me to revisit places I love once again.
I enjoy mixing my own colors, blending colors, and glazing. I seldom use paint “straight up.”
Watercolor is my primary medium, largely because of its translucency and unpredictability. I enjoy seeing how the paint behaves and the persistent element of surprise and challenge.
My creative work provides a means of bringing me closer to my natural surroundings. I most often enjoy painting flowers, especially the interiors of flowers, an interior view that maybe only a bee has observed. Flowers remind us of their strength and beauty but also of their delicate nature.
My more recent works also include a chicken series, still life’s, lobsters and coastal paintings of area marshes and beaches.
I have exhibited work at the Chocolate Church Arts Center, Bowdoin College and on permanent display at the Centre Street Arts Gallery.
My work is in private collections in New England, San Francisco, Venice and Miami, Florida, and Charlotte, North Carolina.
